In an interview with Beirut-based Al Mayadeen TV station, Adviser to the Leader and Head of Strategic Research Center of Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati expressed comments about the latest developments in Syria.
He described the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as a 'hero' who has made every endeavour to supprted his nation in recent years.
Referring to Turkey’s downing of the Russian fighter, Velayati stated “Turkey’s movements do not meet the interests of the region and we urge reduction of tensions.”
“The future of the region relies on the tripartite cooperation of Iran, Russia and Syria,” noted the official expressing hope that the collaboration will bring peace to the region.
Advisor to the Leader further underlined the impossibility of beginning talks in Syria before putting an end to the support for terrorism.
He noted the political consultations to resolve the Syrian crisis in Vienna; “the meeting will fail if follows the path of the Geneva meeting on Syria,” maintained Velayati.
